Abbie Chatfield has revealed she was raped at a high school party.
The Bachelor star, 28, shared the shocking incident on her It’s A Lot podcast this week during an interview with Teach Us Consent CEO Chanel Contos, explaining that it left her feeling anxious and ashamed for years.
‘I’ve never talked about this. I feel sick just bringing this up,” Abbie began.
“Actually, I had consensual sex with one guy at this party, and then I got so drunk I passed out in some bushes. And then this other guy had sex with me, who I had kissed two weekends earlier, or something like that. That was rape.”
In a shocking twist, Abbie claimed her friends had no sympathy when she told them.
“My friends were like, ‘You’re being ridiculous, you’re just a slut, and you’re just sorry about it, so you don’t want to talk about it,'” she said.
The Masked Singer tried to gloss over the incident for years before the trauma returned unexpectedly.
“It wasn’t until I got older, like 20 or something, and I had sex with my boyfriend in a park… I had a full-blown panic attack and was like, ‘Why was that?’
Abbie clarified that she has no plans to name the man responsible for her attack because “he was young and didn’t have the information to understand that that was wrong.”
“So (I feel like) if I talk about it, I might just be ruining his life because he probably has no idea how that affects me. Why do we carry the guilt, shame and fear about it?’ she asked.
Abbie has previously spoken about her decision not to talk about it publicly several incidents of sexual assault in her past.
Speaking to the Brains Trust podcast in 2021, Abbie said she had been the victim of sexual assault “more than once to varying degrees” but was afraid to speak out because her attackers were aggressive or wealthy.
She added that a third attack happened when she was “a little bit younger” – and she thinks people would “say I was lying.”
