Apple has become the latest streaming service to increase its prices in Australia, quietly introducing a new pricing structure last week.
Now new and existing customers will pay $12.99 per month for Apple TV+, up from a previous monthly fee of $9.99.
It’s the second time Apple has increased the price of its TV and movie subscription service; previously it only cost $7.99 per month.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed the move, adding that new pricing has also been rolled out for Apple Arcade, Apple News+ and Apple One.
Apple Arcade now costs $9.99 per month, up from $7.99, and Apple News+ costs $19.99 per month, up from $14.99.
Apple One, a bundled subscription with Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade, plus iCloud storage, consists of three tiers; individual, family and prime minister.
Apple One individual increases to $24.95 from $21.95 per month, family to $31.95 from $28.95 and Premier, which also includes Apple News+ and Apple Fitness+, to $49.95 from $42.95 per month.
The Apple spokesperson said the price increases for new customers started on October 26, while “existing subscribers will see these price increases 30 days later on their next renewal date.”
Apple TV+ is the latest streaming service to increase prices in Australia, following many others in the past twelve months.
On October 23, Netflix will scrap its $10.99 basic subscription, which was the cheapest way to watch the service ad-free in Australia, while Amazon Prime rose from $6.99 to $9.99 in June.
Paramount Plus rose from $8.99 to $9.99 in August, while Binge in October raised the price of its standard subscription from $16 to $18 per month and its premium subscription from $18 to $22 per month.
However, Apple has yet to follow other streamers by introducing cheaper ad-supported subscriptions.
Free trials are also quickly being phased out by streamers, with Disney+, Kayo and Binge phasing them all out and Stan considering doing so.
