Caesar’s Son Stars in Film

The 20th Century Studios franchise returns several years after the events of 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes” with a trailer for the latest chapter, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” premiering May 24 . 2024.

With Caesar dying at the end of the last film, the fourth entry in the modern “Planet of the Apes” saga will follow his son Cornelius, who was just a child in “War for the Planet of the Apes.” Cornelius must continue his father’s legacy by stopping apes from distorting Caesar’s teachings to enslave other primates.

Adding to the franchise, Owen Teague will provide the voice and motion capture of Cornelius. Other new cast members include Kevin Durand, Freya Allen, William H. Macy and Peter Macon.

Wes Ball, known for the trilogy ‘The Maze Runner’, directs from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison. Jaffa, Silver, Joe Hartwick Jr. and Jason Reed produced the film, while Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping executive produced.

Production for the film began in Sydney in October 2022 and ended in February 2023, which Ball announced by posting behind the scenes video from the set.

The franchise, based on a novel by Pierre Boulle, has grossed more than $1.7 billion worldwide. The original series consisted of six films, which premiered between 1968 and 2001. The reboot series was then announced and the first part, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, was released in 2011. This was followed by “Dawn of the Apes”. the Planet of the Apes” in 2014 and “War for the Planet of the Apes” in 2017. Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in April 2019 and announced that more films in the franchise would go into production.
