Gordon goal ends Arsenal’s unbeaten start

Newcastle United ended Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season when Anthony Gordon’s sloppy 64th-minute goal was enough to secure victory for the Magpies at a gritty St. James’ Park.
How the match went
After a first half in which there were more divisions than shots on target, the opening goal was scored halfway through the second half under bizarre circumstances. Substitute Joe Willock chased down a loose cross and just prevented it from going out.
The former Arsenal midfielder crossed over goalkeeper David Raya’s head for Joelinton to head the ball downwards and Gordon scrambled the ball home.
After a lengthy VAR check, which first looked at whether the ball had remained in play, whether Gordon was offside or whether Joelinton had committed a foul, it was ultimately confirmed that the goal set St. James’ Park on fire again.
Arsenal took over and dominated possession in search of an equalizer, but failed to even manage a shot on target as Newcastle’s work rate made them the first team to sideline Mikel Arteta’s side this season.
Arsenal missed the chance to draw level with Manchester City at the top of the table, falling to third place with 24 points. Newcastle are sixth with 20 points.
