Palestinian territories:
The Hamas government in Gaza on Saturday suspended the evacuation of foreign passport holders to Egypt after Israel refused to allow some injured Palestinians to be evacuated to Egyptian hospitals, a border official said.
“No foreign passport holder will be able to leave the Gaza Strip until injured people requiring evacuation from hospitals in northern Gaza are transported to Egypt through the Rafah crossing,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
An Egyptian security source confirmed to AFP that “no injured person or foreign passport holder arrived at the Egyptian terminal” of Rafah on Saturday.
He said the evacuation had been suspended “after the bombing of ambulances carrying injured people heading to the Egyptian terminal”.
On Friday, the Israeli army announced it had struck an ambulance outside Al-Shifa hospital, Gaza’s largest, saying it had been “used by a Hamas terror cell”.
At least 15 people were killed and 60 injured in the strike, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
Israel has launched a war against Hamas in Gaza after the October 7 attacks, which Israel says claimed 1,400 lives, mostly civilians.
The Hamas-led Health Ministry says air, land and sea strikes on Gaza have killed nearly 9,500 Palestinians.
