Kings Park fire near Jacob’s Ladder

Four firefighting aircraft helped contain a blaze that started in the undergrowth at the bottom of Jacob’s Ladder and came very close to buildings on nearby Mount Street.

This was told by a local resident, who did not want to be named Today they saw the fire from a bridge over the highway and called emergency services around 2:48 p.m.

At one point flames could be seen reaching higher than nearby roofs and ash fell onto Mount Street, which is now closed by police and the incident response team.

Seven firefighters responded to the blaze, which started near Cliff Street.

A bushfire watch and response remains in force for parts of western Perth, with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services confirming the fire was contained, but not contained.

A department spokesperson said crews were now mopping up and were expected to remain in the area until about 6 p.m.

Jacob’s Ladder is one of Perth’s most popular exercise and sightseeing destinations.

People of all ages walk and run up its 242 steps every day, while on weekends it attracts local, national and international tourists.
