A man has been rushed to hospital after a suspected stingray attack at a popular beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Paramedics were called to Queens Beach in Vaucluse at around 2pm on Wednesday after reports a man had been bitten.

A man in his 20s was treated at the scene for injuries to his left foot before being taken to St Vincent Hospital.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the man suffered a sting or bite believed to have come from a stingray and not a shark.

Although less known than shark attacks, ray-related attacks are responsible for many of the attacks on marine life in the state.

A 2017 report found that there had been 116 incidents involving stingrays between 2013 and 2016, second only to bluebottles.
