FX has premiered the official trailer for the new limited series adaptation of James Clavell’s famed feudal best-selling Japanese novel “Shogun.”
Justin Marks and his wife Rachel Kondo write the story that charts the clash between two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai.
The story begins in 1600, at the beginning of a century-defining civil war. Hiroyuki Sanada (“Mortal Kombat”) plays Lord Yoshi Toranaga, a brilliant strategist and powerful daimyo who is nevertheless isolated and outnumbered by his enemies among the Council of Regents in Osaka Castle.
Cosmo Jarvis (“Lady Macbeth”) plays John Blackthorne, a risky English sailor who is shipwrecked and stranded in a nearby fishing village – trapped in a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him.
Anna Sawai (“Pachinko”) is Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills and dishonorable family ties who must prove her worth and loyalty.
The property was previously adapted into the famous 1980 miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune and Yoko Shimada. The new version tells the story from both a Western and a Japanese perspective.
The series launches in February on Hulu and FX.
