Report: Chelsea have entered the race for Tottenham-linked defender – Spurs Web

Tottenham Hotspur may regret not signing Edmond Tapsoba this summer as it now appears London rivals Chelsea are keen to land the Bayer Leverkusen defender in January.

The need to strengthen the defense was a top priority for Tottenham last summer after a disastrous season at the back last year.

For months it looked like Edmond Tapsoba would be the one to join Ange Postecoglou, but the North Londoners ultimately opted for Micky van de Ven.

The young Dutchman has done an excellent job since joining the club and has built a brilliant partnership with Cristian Romero. Suffice to say, very few Spurs fans will be thinking about Tapsoba right now.

Chelsea want Tapsoba after summer ties with Spurs

But that doesn’t mean the Burkina Faso international is out of the spotlight. On the contrary, TEAMtalk has now included Tapsoba on a list of five defensive targets for Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite spending a lot in recent years, Chelsea are still struggling, and it seems like the answer to that problem will be throwing more money at the team, especially in defense.

The Blues have a shortlist that includes Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande, Benfica’s Antonio Silva, Lille’s Leny Yoro and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, a player Chelsea sold to the Eagles two years ago.

Tapsoba is also on the list, with Chelsea said to be “exploring the possibility of a deal” ahead of the January transfer window. The West London side are said to be undeterred by the fact that Tapsoba recently signed a new contract with Leverkusen.

Spurs Web Opinion

With the kind of money Chelsea have already spent, I wouldn’t be surprised if they go for Tapsoba, even if Leverkusen will demand a big fee to let him go. I’d be more concerned if I thought Spurs were still interested, but I think we’ve moved on from Tapsoba now.
