Surfers Paradise, QLD: Three teens arrested over alleged public toilet robbery with gel blaster

Three teenagers have been charged after allegedly trying to rob a man in a Gold Coast public toilet while armed with a gel blaster.

Queensland Police bodycam footage captured the moment officers handcuffed the three teenagers after allegedly demanding a man’s phone as he used the bathroom in Surfers Paradise.

Officers are seen confronting the group and instructing them to “get on the ground” before handcuffing each of them.

“You had the gun, I saw it,” an officer is heard telling the teen as he handcuffed him outside the public restroom.

“You had the gun, didn’t you? You tried to rob him, he had the gun.

“There’s a gel blaster there,” another officer said as he showed the toy gun to a colleague.

The third teen was arrested in the bathroom leaning against the wall near the toilet.

All three teens were arrested at the scene and no injuries were reported.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with attempted armed robbery and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Southport Childrens Court on November 15.

A 17-year-old was charged with attempted armed robbery and remanded in custody to appear at Southport Childrens Court on November 10.

Another 15-year-old boy, who was granted bail, was charged with attempted armed robbery and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

He will appear at Southport Childrens Court on November 15.

Gel guns, which can look very similar to deadly firearms, shoot water bullets or gel balls and are somewhat similar in design to paintball guns.

They are banned under firearms legislation in every state except Queensland, where they are classified as toys.
