Tens of thousands of protesters have gathered in Melbourne to call for a ceasefire in Gaza and ‘Shame Labour!’ to chant. Shame!’

Record numbers brought traffic to a standstill in Melbourne’s CBD on Sunday afternoon, marking the sixth protest against Israel’s war against Hamas held across Australia this week.

Rallygoers were seen carrying signs reading “Justice for Palestine” and “Albanians, you cannot hide, you support genocide.”

Protesters marched from the state library and through the streets of the CBD, where police lined up outside Victoria Parliament.

Pro-Palestinian rallies also took place in Adelaide on Friday evening, and in Sydney and Brisbane on Saturday. Other protests took place in Perth and Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.

Police have launched an investigation after posters caricaturing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as Adolf Hitler were put up along two busy roads in Sydney.

The Australian Jewish Association posted photos on its social media channels earlier on Sunday.

NSW Liberal MP Kellie Sloane said the posters were “despicable” and said police were monitoring CCTV footage to find who was responsible.

“These anti-Semitic displays are targeted and despicable and have no place in any community,” she said.
