US Welcomes Netherlands to Artemis Accords

On November 1, the Kingdom of the Netherlands became the 31st country to sign the Artemis Accords. During a ceremony led by the Dutch Ambassador to the United States, Birgitta Tazelaar, Harm van de Wetering, director of the Netherlands Space Office (NSO), signed on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy and U.S. National Space Council Executive Secretary Chirag Parikh attended the ceremony.

Under the joint leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NASA, the Artemis Accords were concluded in 2020, in which eight countries participated. The Artemis Accords establish a practical set of principles to guide cooperation between countries in space exploration. Signatories support the release of public science data and discuss how best to limit or avoid harmful interference on the lunar surface.
